What's an Assessment
Group counseling room
An assessment is a conversation between a professional counselor and an individual that helps determine if a substance use disorder is present or a high risk. The background and information provided during the assessment provides direction in recommending the best options for the individual.

Licensed, professional counselors at High Desert Counseling will complete the assessment to better understand your strengths and discern potential problems then talk through the options, and make appropriate and clear recommendations for treatment.

Not all recommendations are for treatment at HDC. If it is determined residential treatment is necessary, your counselor will refer you to the appropriate provider. If your circumstances are not a fit for HDC, your counselor may refer you to another treatment center that specializes in the care you require.

Day treatment is partial hospitalization (PHP) for those individuals that do not clinically require 24-hour inpatient or residential care.

The course of treatment includes 20 hours weekly at the facility where the individual receives counseling, group therapy, relapse prevention skills, education, and a personalized treatment plan.

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are treatment programs designed to address substance use disorders not requiring detoxification or round-the-clock supervision. This allows patients to continue with their daily lives in a way that residential treatment programs do not.

If you are someone who has a safe living environment, family or work commitments that may interfere with residential treatment, IOP may be your best solution.

How Outpatient Addiction Treatment Works

High Desert Counseling hats

01.

Day Treatment

Day Treatment (PHP) requires 20 hours per week and meets daily, four days per week. This may be adjusted if the patient finds employment or has another serious obligation.

02.

IOP

Intensive Outpatient treatment is a step down from Day Treatment that requires nine hours per week for 12-16 weeks. These are group sessions accompanied by one therapy session each week.

03.

GOP

Stepping down from IOP is General Outpatient Treatment that consists of bi-weekly visits with your therapist and continues until you feel ready to complete your treatment.
