Community Health Events Supporting Recovery

High Desert Counseling is hosting a free public event on Monday, August 4, and everyone is invited!
4Life is focused on community health, access to harm reduction tools, and the kind of connection that helps people stay well. It will take place at our St. George location (561 E Tabernacle) and will include:
- Free Narcan (naloxone) kits
- Brief overdose response training
- Fentanyl and xylazine test strips
- Food and music
- Yoga
- Free "Let's Keep Breathing" t shirts
This event is open to the public, whether you’re in recovery; supporting someone who is; working in the field; or just want to be part of.
Tools That Save Lives
The presence of fentanyl and xylazine in the drug supply continues to make overdoses more dangerous. Narcan is an opioid overdose reversal medication that can keep someone alive long enough to get help. Test strips can alert someone to the presence of fentanyl or xylazine in a substance, giving them a chance to make a safer choice.
These tools are easy to use, and they’re free at 4Life.
So is the information. If you’re not sure how Narcan works, or you’ve never seen a test strip before, this is a good place to start. Staff and volunteers will be on-site to explain how to use them and answer questions.
Breaking Isolation and Stigma
Substance use is often treated with shame or silence. That approach doesn’t work. It keeps people from getting support, and it creates unnecessary barriers between individuals and their families, workplaces, and communities.
At 4Life, we’re offering something different: a space where people can show up without having to defend or explain themselves. We believe in practical tools, honest conversations, and respect for every person’s path. That includes people who are using substances, people who are working toward recovery, and people who just want to understand.
Four Years of Showing Up
This event also marks four years since High Desert Counseling opened its doors!
We started this organization to create accessible, compassionate care for people living with addiction and mental health challenges. In the last four years, we’ve grown into a network of outpatient therapists and counselors, peer supports, and case managers. We've supported people through many "firsts", court requirements, job searches, family reunification, housing instability, and more.
It hasn’t been easy work, but it’s been meaningful. We’ve learned a lot from the people we serve, and from our partners in the recovery and harm reduction community. We’re proud to be part of that ecosystem, and we’re proud to still be here.
Why the Event Is Called 4Life
The name 4Life acknowledges our four-year milestone, but it also reflects the direction we’re facing. We want to stay focused on what sustains people: health, safety, connection, and care that meets people where they are.
This isn’t a celebration of success. It’s a reflection of what’s still needed, and a chance to invite others into that work.
